The pride of Whangaehu's O'Leary brothers in Who Shot Thebarman will be hoping to go two places better in today's running of the Melbourne Cup.
The 2014 Group 1 Auckland Cup winner, who came third at that year's A$6.2 million cup race, Who Shot Thebarman has been priced at $31as seventh favourite - the best odds of the three Kiwi horses in the field including Pentathlon ($81) and Rose of Virginia ($151).
The horse is owned by Dan, Michael, Shaun and Humphrey O'Leary and is trained by expatriate New Zealander Chris Waller.
It was named after a favourite saying of the O'Leary's aunt when her gin glass was empty and needed a refill.
TAB NZ has reported that up to 70 members of the O'Leary brothers family and friends will travel to Melbourne to support the horse.
