The Velo Ronny's Trek Wanganui cycling team got off to a great start in the first round of the Trust House North Island Team Series by winning the Masters 2 time trial in Masterton on Sunday.

In the third year of the five-event series, the Wanganui Masters team finished the team time trial in 18m 1s, beating out the Total Home Theatre by three seconds in the ten team field.

The team consisted of Gary Anderson, Pat Johnstone, Adrian Pettit, Darcy Forrester, Craig Yorston, Stephen Snell.

Manager Ron Cheatley said Anderson, Johnstone and Snell also finished in the leading Masters 2 group at the end of the 90km road race which followed the time trial.

This year's North Island series follows a different format with the time included, as well as a criterium stage at the next round on October 16.
