The Marton Rugby and Sports Club take their place in the senior competition this weekend replacing Ratana, who have withdrawn.
Club president Dion Kumeroa said a number of potential players unable to commit to the rigours of premier grade rugby were keen to slot into the lower grade competition.
Fifteenturned out to a recent meeting to assess the possibility.
"We've always had a premier side but lacked the numbers to field a senior team until now," Kumeroa said yesterday.
"Kelvin Chase has been pretty much driving it and will start it off, although we will be trying to rope in a few others to help out.
"There are players out there who want to play but can't commit to turning up for training yet still want to play on Saturdays. We'll see how it goes, but the more we have the bigger and stronger the club will be," he said.
Marton will replace Ratana in the senior draw and this Saturday face Marist Celtic on the Wanganui racecourse from 1pm.
