The Manawatu Under 13s have dominated the latest tournament of the Wanganui Festival of Cricket and there was a real log jam behind them to find a contender yesterday afternoon.
Heading into the afternoon session of the 30-over tournament at Victoria Park, Manawatu were the only undefeated team on 16points, while three other teams were sitting on eight points.
However, tournament convener Neil Kirkwood said even the two other teams with one victory each could possibly get up to earn the second qualifying spot for today's final, depending on other results in the final round yesterday.
"If it's a tied position for second, it will come down to run rate."
Manawatu had proven adept at both setting an unbeatable target and successfully chasing one, scoring the highest total of the event in their first game against Wanganui White, 194-7, while winning their next two games by six wickets. Wanganui White were playing town mates Wanganui Blue on Victoria No1 at press time yesterday.
