The Malaysia men's team rebounded from their Tuesday loss at Springvale Stadium to beat the HoopNation New Zealand Selection 100-92 at Hawera's TSB Hub on Wednesday night.
However, the confidence boost was short lived as Malaysia were hammered 104-81 by NBL team the Taranaki MountainAirs at New Plymouth YMCA lastnight.
In Hawera, Malaysia led 24-22 at quartertime and then 59-45 at the half, while the New Zealand team with their three Whanganui connections were able to close the gap to five points in the final quarter.
The tourists pulled back out to a 12-point advantage and were safe from there.
Against the MountainAirs, who were without some of their import players from the NBL season, Malaysia were showing signs of fatigue in their third game in as many days.
The home side pushed the tempo, leading 31-22 at quartertime and had extended that advantage to 51-38 at the half, and again to 75-60 by three quarter time.
Malaysia will wrap up their tour with a third game against HoopNation NZ Selection in Tauranga tomorrow.
