After keeping one Australasian trophy out of our neighbour's hands in late February, Waverley's Ken Lupton is off on a one-boat invasion to claim another this Friday.
The Waverley hydroplane driver is taking his American-designed "Cheetah" boat to challenge for the EC Griffith Cup at Bacchus Marsh, about 50km westof Melbourne, this weekend.
Lupton's boat will be the only Kiwi entry among the 21 competitors.
Denise Moughan, president of the New Zealand Powerboat Federation, said if Lupton wins the cup it will be hosted back home next year, possibly at Lake Karapiro.
On February 23-24, Lupton's "Cheetah" won the AE Baker trophy, competing against the Aussies in Tauranga.
At Bacchus Marsh, there will be hot lap qualifying in two heats on Friday, with the top 10 hydroplanes out of the 21 getting through to the finals on Saturday.
Lupton's boat is already on route and the driver flies out on Tuesday.
