"We also have a very, very strong side going to Mitchell Park in Wellington in July to try and capture the New Zealand Masters Club title for the first time. The team includes Rob Bannister, Ant Rountree, Arno Benadie and Warren Mant with John Roestenburg and Barry Touzel the reserves," Kenny said.
On Tuesday night the Wanganui premier men took on second placed Tararua at home, finishing top of their pool after the victory.
However, because Palmerston North-based Squash Gym Blue had beaten Tararua in pool play they have the honour of meeting Wanganui in the final on Tuesday in Palmerston North.
First up for Wanganui this Tuesday was Ant Rountree against up-and-coming junior David Greer. Greer, fresh from a tournament win the previous weekend, fancied his chances, but Rountree had other ideas and took control; winning the first set 11/5, taking the second 12/10 and then clinching the third 11/9.
Second up was Steven Bennett who was up against professional squash coach from Palmerston North, Jason Fletcher. Bennett had no answer for Fletcher; losing in four sets, 11/9, 6/11, 11/9, 11/6.
Third on court was the battle of the number No1s, Matt Ratcliffe for Wanganui and Tararua's Justin Brown. Ratcliffe dropped the first set 8/11 but went on to win the next three sets; 11/8, 11/3, 11/5.
Finally, Arno Benadie took on Geoff Spencer and it proved a close encounter with Benadie winning in five sets; 11/8, 5/11, 11/4, 8/11, 11/8, giving Wanganui a 3/1 victory and a place in the final.
Points after final pool round: Harvey Round Motors Wanganui 49, Tararua 42, Squash Gym Blue 42, Squash Gym Gold 40, Rangitikei 33, Massey 28.
