The 2013 season wrapped up this week with a lot of excitement for the 20 teams of youngsters who took part in Wednesday afternoon's Kiwi Sticks competition at the Gonville Domain.

In the A Grade, St John's Hill School proved the strongest with a 4-1 win in the final against Carlton School, confirming their domination of this level through the season.

However, the B Grade final was a thrilling affair as Mosston School and Durie Hill School were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Wanganui Hockey operations manager Kylie Penn said the teams then played golden goal, both squads dropping off two players after each two minute period.

It came right down to the nearly-exhausted last player on each team, competing with open goals, and Mosston scored to claim the title 2-1.

While the junior school and club hockey has concluded for the year, the Wanganui representative teams are not slowing down at all.

Last weekend both the Under 15 boys and girls teams continued with mini-tournament action.

The Under 15 boys, coached by Andrew Spence, defeated Manawatu 3-1 and Hawke's Bay 1-0, although they lost 2-0 to Wellington.

Coached by Jan Dixon, the Under 15 girls beat Taranaki 4-0 and Hawke's Bay 2-1. They head to Wairarapa for another mini-tournament this weekend.
