Schoolboys from throughout the region flocked to a holiday rugby programme in Wanganui this week keen to get on the paddock and play.
The programme was hosted by the Wanganui Rugby Union with community rugby development officer Jordan Farrington at the helm.
"We started on Monday with rippa rugby forthe under7s and about 60 kids turned up," Farrington said yesterday.
"On Tuesday we hosted as many if not more under-10s and under-8s and today we catered for the under-10 and under-11s. It's been hugely popular. With the changes in school terms the rugby season is starting a bit later for these guys and they are just hanging out to play - they're keen as mustard."
Farrington, with help from slightly older schoolboy players, said the kids were taught the fundamentals of the game from tackles through to simple on-field body movements.
"We've got kids from all around the region including Rangitikei, Ruapehu, Ratana and the metro [city] kids. This is our first holiday programme in quite a while, but we'll look at making it an annual event."
