Hitting the slopes

This is the kind of action that will be seen at Turoa today for the 2016 Slopestyle competition.

Competitors will be getting some air at the Turoa Terrain Park today as the site of the 2016 Slopestyle competition.

The competition, which gives skiers and snowboarders the chance to showcase the ultimate in freestyle tricks, guarantees a fun day out for extreme sports fans.

Action starts at 11am, with qualifier and final runs for eight categories, including Under 16, Open Men's and Open Women's ski and snowboard events. Bryan Cleaver, Turoa Event coordinator, said the Slopestyle is a must for freestylers who love to push their skills.

"Our Turoa Terrain park will transform into a stage where athletes throw down to impress.

"We're setting up a combination of jumps, boxes and rails to offer an endless variety of lines.

"Points are scored for overall impression including variety, style, execution, difficulty and amplitude," Cleaver continued.

"We're excited to see the athletes push their skills."

Competitors have been able to register today from 8am-10am at the Alpine Café at Turoa Ski field - entry is $30 with a $20 deposit for a competitor's bib.

The Subaru Top Weekend is also being held this weekend where the top 200 carparks at Turoa Ski Field are reserved for Subaru drivers of any model on a first-come, first-served basis.
