Wanganui's new combined Twenty20 competition has been designed to give weaker Premier 2 sides a chance to compete with the big boys and Saturday's second round accomplished just that.
With the representative players away in New Plymouth for the Hawke Cup match against Taranaki, three Premier 2 teams snuck upto beat either full or mixed Premier 1 sides.
Bayer Marist lost by six wickets to Hunterville, who chased down the 116-9 total in 16 overs on Springvale Park.
High School Old Boys defeated St Johns Tech 1 at Victoria, while Renegades did the same to Saracens Maroon on the No1 pitch.
It will give those teams a lot of confidence, given there are two straight weekends of Twenty20 coming up due to Active Physio Wanganui's Hawke Cup home games.
Property Brokers United 1st XI didn't have any such problems with a 56-run win over Wanganui Collegiate at the school ground.
The United middle order had a good slog in the final five overs to get them through to a defendable total, then the bowlers stranded the school team on 70-9 when the overs ran out.
David Jones United 2nd XI completed a good day for the club with a 45-run win over Taihape at Victoria Park, making 170 and dismissing the visitors for 125.
