Group 1 qualifying racing returns to the Hatrick Raceway this evening.

Two heats will be held for the Palamountains Nutrition Wanganui Distance, over the extreme 755m staying test.

The first four stayers to finish in each heat will return to contest next Friday's $21,000 final.

First heat is Race 8 (8.10pm), in which the Karen Walsh-prepared Thrilling Logic will probably start as favourite.

Although he is a proven stayer, the 755m trip appears to be at the very top of his range.

He set up the initial pace in last week's Group 2 Teressa McDonald Memorial Cup over 747m before being caught over the concluding stages.

That race was held on the tough, demanding Cambridge circuit, where the sheer size of that track turns staying races into energy-sapping events.

The Hatrick track is much smaller, which does afford these canine athletes even a brief respite on the tighter bends.

Osti's Pursuit is a proven stayer over the longer journeys for his trainer Carolyn Hore.

He is likely to settle back in the rear division before he is sighted doing his best work at the business end.

Indi Rhode was a stylish winner over 645m on this track during her last outing.

The Wayne and Tracy Steele-trained stayer has missed over this 755m trip, however she is now a much more experienced and stronger greyhound.

Opawa Tania is a promising stayer from the powerful Dave and Jean Fahey kennels and has drawn to settle on the pace from where she is likely to keep grinding on stoutly.

Indiana Izmir was a strong Cambridge 645m winner last week and he is expected to be sighted racing in the leading division for a long way for his trainers Paul Freeman and Angela Turnwald.

The second heat is the following race (8.40pm), which features last week's potent Cambridge Group 2 winner Little Teegan.

The Arch Lawrence-trained stayer is a previous Group 2 755m winner on this track.

Watch for her to be improving rapidly when her field reaches the final bend.

Cool Pursuit rattled home late behind Little Teegan at Cambridge and this Hore-trained stayer is likely to be seen doing likewise here.

Buddy Broke is a proven 755m stayer on this track for Bill Hodgson and his qualifying claims can never be dismissed despite having attained veteran status (5-year-old).

The Steve Clark-trained Sasha's One has the ability to hop straight on to the early pace, while Blushing Belle is a recent winner over the Addington 732m trip for Robin Wales and Josh Lane.
