MOUNTAINBIKING: Glenn Haden, recently back from the world championships in Italy, will be a star attraction at the first round of the Wanganui down-hill mountain bike racing championship on Sunday.
Haden will come up against strong riding Jono Hamlin, also a top line track racer, in the men's open grade.
Riders from
as far away as Auckland, Tauranga, Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Taranaki are expected for the racing which will be held on the popular Lismore Forest Terra Firma track.
There are grades for open men and women, 30 plus and 40 plus veterans, under-19 and under-15 boys plus recreational men and women.
It is the first of three rounds for championship points with numerous race and spot prizes.
Practice day is on Saturday between 10am and 2pm (members $5, non-members $10).
On Sunday the first of two timed runs starts at 10.30am (members $15, non-members $20, under-15 $10 ? including up-hill shuttle service).
Registrations are between 8.30am and 9.45am with practices until racing briefs at 10am. Parents are welcome as spectators or for marshalling duties.
