Gillespie continues to impress on PGA Tour China

Former Wanganui golfer Nick Gillespie continues to rack up points on the PGA Tour China pro golf order of merit.

Gillespie's latest effort came in last weekend's Beijing Open, the fifth tournament on the tour that he has started in.

His four round total of 285 saw him in a tie for 45th place, along with fellow Kiwi Mahal Pearce.

Another Kiwi, Mathew Perry finished second, coughing up a two-shot lead with a triple bogey on the 17th.

The tournament was won by Xin Jun Zhang who finished 19 under par and two shots clear of Perry.

Gillespie opened with a 72 and then shot 70, 70 and a final round 73 to finish three under.

Gillespie was ranked 21 in the tour order of merit before the Beijing event, a position that had him ahead of all the other Kiwis in the field, including Perry, Mark Brown who tied for 31st and Pearce.

In late April he finished tied for 63rd in the Buick Open at Gaungzhou. That was followed with a share of 13th at the Wuhan Open last month.

The only blip came earlier this month when he missed the cut in the Lanhai Open.

The next tournament is scheduled for August.
