Wanganui driver Matt Gibson has regained second in the Mazda Pro7 North Island championship after a successful weekend at Hampton Downs last weekend.

Gibson drove his Lighting Plus RX7 to a first and two seconds at Hampton Downs narrowing the gap on championship leader and former New Zealand V8 competitor Dean McMillan.

He is looking forward to his home round of the Mazda Pro7 championship at Manfeild this weekend which is round four of the North Island series and also round two of the New Zealand championship where he is currently in third place with only a couple of points separating the top three drivers.

"I'm looking forward to the home round of the championship where I can show my sponsors and supporters where their help and support goes," Gibson said yesterday.

The Mazda Pro7 racing is a support class to the NZ V8s and the Toyota Racing Series Grand Prix this weekend making it the biggest New Zealand motorsport event of the year.
