From Olympic glories, to Meads Cup rugby success, to many local juniors making their mark on the world stage - it will all be celebrated again this November at the 2016 Ray White Whanganui Sports awards.

Nominations are open from this Sunday, August 21, for the ceremony in November to recognise "the achievements and significant contributions of the region's sporting community", as organised by Sport Whanganui.

Communities from across the Whanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu districts can nominate their various sports stars, coaches and volunteers for all their efforts.

Last year there were 80 nominations although as usual, it was a late torrent that followed the trickle so Sport Whanganui would appreciate nominations being completed as quickly as possible.

Closure date is October 7.
