Wanganui golfer Joan Shore is the overall stableford winner of the inaugural Central Districts Nine-Hole Champion of Champion's tournament hosted by the Marton club last week

The Tawhero Golf Club member was one of 27 golfers to play two rounds of stableford competition, racking up 42 points to take the title.

The men's gross winner was Corey MacMillan from the Levin club with a gross of 80, while Feilding's Claire Rowse took the women's division with a gross of 98.

Shore's victory came hard on the heels of top performances in the Castlecliff nine-hole club competition a week before where she finished second equal with 38, and last month in the Women's District Criers Cup Day tournament in Levin. Shore also finished second equal in the division 1 ladies grade.

Marton club secretary Chris Ellery said an important part of any sports function, including this inaugural tournament, are the sponsors.

"The Marton Nine-Hole Club would like to sincerely thank Pilkys Auto Clinic, The Fish Truck, The Club Hotel, Petals & Presents, Angkor Bakery & Cafe, Springvale Garden Centre, Imlay Butcher Shop, Prestons Master Butchers, Cinema Gold and Bigyard Golf Balls," he said. "We simply could not have hosted the event without that support."
