The Kakatahi club have already had a prosperous start to the 2014 polocrosse season as they look ahead to their annual carnival at Kaiwhaiki's MacNab Domain next weekend.
The club will host their carnival of the season on February 1-2 at the domain near Upokongaro, with games scheduled throughout theSaturday and on the Sunday morning.
Club spokeswoman Robyn Walford said it would be a great chance for locals to see what polocrosse a combination of horseback polo and the sport of lacrosse was all about.
"Polocrosse is a fast-paced, exciting game, requiring a high level of skill and agility from both horse and rider," she said.
"It is arguably one of the most exciting, exhilarating spectator sports there is.
"Come and watch a unique sport that shows displays of incredible horsemanship and sportsmanship."
The club's membership had increased from 39 last year to 45 this season, with members sporting new uniforms and having attended carnivals in Taumarunui and Ashhurst.
Last weekend some of them returned to Taumarunui for the juniors and intermediates carnival.
Representing Wanganui juniors were Jeffrey Marshall, Tamati Butler, Lance Sellars and Mae Watson, who were coached by Kenny Butler.
Marshall was selected for the New Zealand junior (under-16) squad, who will compete in Albury against an Australian team in April.
The Wanganui intermediate team of Katie Wills, Bayley Phillips, Georgia Walford, Kiriana Butler, and the Australian Doyle siblings Craig and Rachel also had some pleasing results.
Wills was chosen for the New Zealand under-21 team while Phillips, Walford and Butler made one of the two U21 Development teams, alongside Carey Cornelius.
The U21 squads will play in a tournament which includes a New South Wales U21 team on February 8-9 at Island Reserve, Otorohanga.
