Some of them talked about birdies, others chatted about whiskey, but all 22 teams had a ball at the 2014 Wanganui Chronicle annual Business Golf tournament yesterday.

The ambrose format meant a number of teams could be carried through the Castlecliff Golf Club by their best player, given a number of them were not exactly regulars on the green.

"Someone asked how we were going, then asked what that means, because he didn't know about golf," said LJ Hooker team member Steve Ellis.

The winning team, with a score of 55.375, was the Wanganui Jockey Club's 'Crazy Horses', consisting of Brett Field, Calvin Field, Tyler Lock and Karl Sundman.

Runners-up were David Jones Motors/Sport Wanganui, as Gareth Jones, Max Carroll, Mark Fraser and Bryce Gracie scored 56.125.

There were $8000 worth of prizes.
