It's a double header at Hatrick this weekend with this evening's usual Whanganui meeting being backed up with the Taranaki club hosting their annual TAB meeting at the venue on Sunday afternoon.

The highest graded races this evening are the last two for the open class sprinters over the 305m dash.

Race 11 sees the return to Hatrick of last Sunday's bold Group 1 Railway Sprint 318m runner-up Allegro Lass for Lisa Cole.

There was a solid effort by Allegro Lass to claim her placing, behind a sprinting flying machine on paws in Swimming Goat.

She has drawn nicely in trap two for her sprint this evening and she can be rewarded with the race win here.

Two other Railway finalists are also lining up in this dash.

Lover, from the Angela Turnwald kennels, made a mistake at the jump from the Manukau 318m traps.

He is a hard act to follow, however on raw ability he is talented enough to be sighted at the sharp end of this field.

It was a top effort by veteran local trainer Freddy Kite to qualify the consistent Hatrick sprinter Sedgebrook Babe for the Railway final.

She endured a luckless outing in the $25,000 final.

Drawing out in the eight trap presents her with sound looking swooping claims.

Again it is the open class 305m sprinters who provide the higher grade action on Sunday for the Taranaki club.

The Race 11 sprint features another luckless runner from the Railway Sprint - the Hatrick 305m track record holder Allegro Gun, also for Ahern.

He has secured the one trap to jump from here, while his litter sister Allegro Lass is backing up again from the adjacent trap.

Adding interest to the card is the Race 9, 645m staying event.

Stay Frosty (Cole) attempted to lead the field all-the-way in her last 645m assignment here.

She was run down into third within sight of the judge then. She would have derived benefit from that outing.

Pressing on stoutly to claim second in that 645m event was the John McInerney trained Gunnar Blueblood.

He holds obvious claims in Sunday's version of this race.
