The Wanganui Chronicle will give credit where it's due to More FM radio host Jason Granville after a dominant performance in the special invitation challenge during Oceanview Speedway's 2012-13 season close on Sunday evening.
Taking on eight other rookie drivers, including a contingent of fiverepresenting your local paper, Granville could not be stopped in Wayne Wright's 99v stockcar, lapping everyone at least once.
"It was a weapon," the disc jockey said. "[My win] was just how it went, the challenge was out there.
Granville is perhaps being charitable there, given the tales of stalling motors and gear change crunches which characterised the other competitors' efforts.
Asked whether he might make us all feel better by considering a career change into competitive driving because there's no shame in being beaten by the best Granville said he baulked at the $16,000 price to purchase his winning chariot.
"Hopefully my mum will win the Mother's Day lotto draw and she'll buy it for me."
Oceanview's final night of the season featured Vulcans v Ken's Cowboys, demolition ramp derby, West Coast streetstock champs and the Karl Barritt Memorial.
