Jason Daws was a fresh name to add to the side of the trophy when the Wanganui Harrier Club's annual Brine to Wine road race finished at Aramoho Top 10 Holiday Park on Sunday morning.
The 16km dash from Castlecliff Beach to Aramoho in overcast but fine weather conditions attracted
another decent turnout with 27 individual runners and six teams of 2-3, as well as 36 walkers and five teams of two.
Daws took line honours in 1h 4m 54s, around five minutes ahead of runnerup Liam Jones, an Under 18 competitor who continues to improve, while Bruce Harding was third.
Usually a leading contender for the Brine to Wine is international competitor Christian Conder, but the Conder family took on the role of manning the water stations this year.
Starting out an hour before the runners, Gai-Marie Smart was the leading walker home in 1h 48m 37s, followed just after six minutes later by Robin Howard, with Graeme Calder not far behind him in third.
