Teenager Jessica Watkin capped a banner year of boys and girls cricket at all levels when she was named Wanganui's Junior Cricketer of the Year at the end of season awards at the Cooks Gardens conference room on Saturday evening.
The choice for the top junior prize came down toWatkin and last year's winner Brett Cameron, who had captained the Central District's Under 17 team and was named in the national tournament XI after their games in Wellington in January.
However it was Watkin, who played both boys and girls cricket for Wanganui High School, senior men's cricket for St Johns Tech, in the resurrected Anndion Lodge Wanganui senior women's team and made selection for the Central Districts Hinds team, who earned the gong. It is estimated Watkin scored over 1000 runs across all levels during the summer.
