Tech could have used the skills of their star batsman Henry Collier, but he had bigger fish to fry on the national stage in Canterbury at the weekend.

Representing Central District's Under-19 in the second phase of the national tournament at Lincoln University, Collier scored 106 against Auckland on Saturday, combining with fellow opener Brynn Cleaver (100) for an outstanding 198-run partnership.

Collier struck 12 boundaries and three sixes during his 116-ball knock as CD carried on to 307-7. Auckland made a game chase of it but lost by 37 runs, with Collier also picking up a wicket from his three-over spell of spinners.

Fellow Wanganui teammate Nick Blundell finished with 0-26 off his six overs.

Collier did not experience such strong returns in his other games. He fell for 10 batting at number 5 against Canterbury Under-19 on Wednesday, when CD collapsed to 99 all out chasing 195 to win. Yesterday afternoon he was dismissed for a duck as CD was chasing a target of 250 against Otago. Blundell took 1-46 from his seven overs.

Collier wasn't the only Wanganui batsman to impress at the weekend as Brett Cameron had a great start to the Central District's Under-17 campaign. Batting first against Otago Under-17, Cameron finished with 129.
