The ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup ended in disappointment for Wanganui player Henry Collier and his New Zealand team with a 77-run loss to Bangladesh in the plate final on Thursday.
Chasing 224 for victory at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Collier and the New Zealand batsmen werepinned down and could only muster 146-9 from their 50 overs, having to settle for 10th place at the tournament.
Earlier in the day, the left-handed Collier picked up the wicket of Bangladesh dangerman Shadman Islam, bowling him three runs short of a century, although Collier was a little expensive with his three overs of spin, conceeding 19 runs.
Collier also made the catch to dismiss Yasir Ali for 15, the only batsman to make any kind of contribution alongside the crucial 124-run partnership between Islam and Litton Das (79).
The Kiwi bowlers shared the scalps, along with two run outs in the field, as Bangladesh lost their last six wickets for 24 runs.
At New Zealand's turn to bat, opener Collier again started slowly and was caught behind for 16 off 43 balls, being one of four scalps to Bangladesh's offbreak bowling allrounder Mosaddek Hossain.
Unable to get partnerships going, New Zealand struggled as Hossain got amongst the top order, leaving them at 66-5 in the 22nd over and then 112-9 by the 44th.
A late defiant blast of 51 not out by No9 batsman Brett Randell took them close to 150 but by then the game was well lost.
