The Wanganui Collegiate 1st XV returned from a hit and run mission to Hawkes Bay yesterday the victors after an emphatic 37-8 win over traditional foe Te Aute College.
Complete dominance from the forwards provided ample clean ball for the quick Collegiate backs to capitalise and the majority of thesix tries came from out wide with winger Jonty Nesbitt claiming two. Other points came from two conversions and a penalty.
Te Aute's only try came through an intercept early in the second half and caught Collegiate napping.
Collegiate coach Guy Lennox was pleased to come away with the win, but still saw work to do for upcoming match-ups.
Yesterday's game was a traditional fixture between the two colleges.
"We completely dominated and were never in danger of losing, although they played with real spirit and put up a fight as they usually do at home," Lennox said yesterday.
"We got some nice tries out wide. They have a few big boys in their side, but once outside them we were able to use our pace to scoot wide and score. It was a fairly good team effort and while I'm happy enough to get the win, there are still things to work on."
