"Effective immediately, I don't want to handle any of that," Reweti said earlier in the week.
He felt he was being unduly criticised for the assistant coach being there. "It's a personal attack against me, but I never invited him. It's better off I get out."
Campbell said he has yet to personally speak to Reweti, but he did not blame him for the man attending the game in Palmerston North.
"That guy's a grown adult, he's responsible for his own actions.
"[But] someone let him in the photos and go up to collect the medal.
"There was two committee members who could have asked 'should you be there'?"
The Whanganui Boxon senior team are now going to have their own prizegiving, separate from the club.
Reweti could not say if he will join up with another league club next year.
"I'll just go along and watch. I'll have my weekends back."
Campbell said the committee has their upcoming end-of-season debrief and Reweti would be welcome to attend to see if the matter can be worked out before next year. "You never say never but there's a lot of other things that come with it as well."
He said it had cost $2500 to register the senior team and the club had charged the players half that figure for their subs.
However, only about half of them had paid for the year or assisted with small incidental costs like running vans to Palmerston North for games.
"Things have to change because it's hard to run a club, when you've got no money or nothing," said Campbell.
The committee will have to decide if they field the team next year given the costs, or if it best to continue focusing on their youth teams.
"Some say they want it, some say they don't.
"Even if it comes the club doesn't want a senior team next year, I'd support them if they wanted to set one up themselves," Campbell said.
