History was made on Sunday when the Castlecliff lady golfers claimed the Champion of Champions trophy for the first time since its inception in 1993.
The annual event is the season pinnacle for women golfers in the Manawatu/Wanganui districts and the conditions were ideal for the winning ladies playing onhome turf at the Castlecliff Golf Club.
Clubs from throughout the region send their individual champions from Silver, Bronze 1 and Bronze 2 divisions as well as their Bronze 1 runner up, to compete in a gruelling 36-hole individual and team event. Scores are used to find the individual Champion of Champions in each grade and then collated to find the overall Champion Club for the region.
The Castlecliff team consisted of Silver Champion Amber-Rose Thompson-Newth, Bronze 1 winner Ann Carroll, Bronze 1 Runner-up Barb Cornor, and Bronze 2 winner and captain Carol Kenny.
The team were helped over the line by Thompson-Newth who finished second in the Silver division and Carroll who won the overall Champion of Champions in the Bronze 1 division.
