Whanganui Boxon have found themselves on top of the Manawatu league premier table after a 180 degree turn in their fortunes against the Dannevirke Tigers on Saturday.

Having been beaten 50-16 on their visit to the Tigers' lair in April, Boxon's determination to right the ledger sent them into overdrive with 13 tries in the 70-22 smashing at Te Kura O Kokohuia.

Delighted coach Stewart Reweti said while the Tigers could only bring 13 players over with them, it was nonetheless the fact his guys were "switched on" this time around which meant they would have taken the match whatever the circumstances.

"We put our sets together and hung on to the ball. When we went over there we were dropping the ball and not doing anything.

"We didn't stop, we just kept scoring."

Boxon had a light bench themselves with five injured players unavailable, but the home team's dominance was evident in the opening 15 minutes as they ran in five tries when everyone had fresh legs.

Jordan Davis was virtually unstoppable as he scored two of his hat-trick, running excellent lines and getting low to force his way over.

Hooker Stevie Aue controlled the plays while big centre Che Barlow and standoff Steelie Koro cut through at will.

Boxon led 36-6 at the break and while Dannevirke grabbed some second half touchdowns it was barely consoling.

Tryscorer Koro would add nine conversions for a profitable day, while Barlow actually crossed the goalline four times but twice passed the ball to gift a teammate their own four-pointer.

Their team's two wins at home in the premier round makes them top of the table as the other side's have all split their results.

Club league now takes a rest as next weekend the Manawatu Mustangs play Wellington in Palmerston North.

Davis, Barlow, Aue, and wingers Pentuakau Turia-Bennett and Matthew Rangi are all in the representative team.

After that, Boxon travel back to the army camp to play the Linton Cobras, who before Dannevirke handed them their other loss this season a 62-4 thumping on April 13.

Reweti expressed discontent with the draw. His team has to go to Linton twice, as well as Otaki, with the last four games of the round all being away matches.

In the four-team premier grade, the top side automatically progress to the grand final, with teams two and three in a playoff.
