A big turnout of 35 craft took to the Whanganui River for the second race of the 2017 Winter Series yesterday morning.
Representatives from seven different clubs and schools took part in the monthly challenge which allows craft of various sizes and crew numbers to compete together, with the winnerdecided on prognostic time - having the highest percentage of the record time for their discipline.
It was the first race of the series after the May event was cancelled.
Visitor Kyle Malone of the Star Boat Club had a good morning on the 1km course, as his 24m 36s time was 89.02 per cent of prognostic for Club M1x craft.
Union Boat Club took the minor podium placings as Bob and Jennie Evans were second with 88.3 per cent of the Mixed Mas 2X class in 25m 56s.
Club mate Pat Carroll was third with his 25m 22s time being 87.52 per cent for MDM1x.
Star BC's Connor Burns, another MX1 competitor, came fourth with a 87.31 per cent prognostic, while the highest finishing Aramoho Whanganui Rowing Club boat was the fifth-placed Niamh Monk and Jaimee Bridger, who got 87.2 per cent of the GU16 2X class.
