Berridge knocked out the replacement, Argentina's Mariano Jose Riva, then had an angry ringside exchange with Taihia who climbed into the ring with both fighters being kept separated.
Despite going on to knock out Daniel MacKinnon to win the WBO's Oriental Light Heavyweight title in November, Berridge still remembered Taihia, making it clear he would have liked to have "cleaned up the backyard" in 2013.
It appears Duco Events have granted that request.
"Taihia should've been more careful with his mouth," said Berridge.
"I've never avoided any opponent and I'm going to prove he doesn't have the same credentials as me."
Since the MacKinnon victory, Berridge avenged his controversial draw with Australia's Kerry Foley by knocking him out in February, and received the big boost of being ranked the 10th light-heavyweight in the world by the World Boxing Organisation in March.
His positioning with the major sanctioning body brings the likelihood of a world title shot that much closer.
Duco Events pointed out in their release that American Cedric Agnew had a failed shot at WBO champion Sergey Kovalev of Russia last month, after coming in with a WBO ranking of 14th.
"The [10th] ranking is significant for a number of reasons," said promoter David Higgins.
"It underlines his quality and credibility.
"And, perhaps more importantly for Robert, it puts him in a position to have a realistic shot at the world title within the next 18 months."
