Collegiate 1st XV had a rude awakening to their opening game of the Quadrangular tournament after going down 34-10 to Nelson College for Boys yesterday afternoon.
Playing in front of packed embankment in front of the main school building - one of the best spots for watching rugby in Nelson
- Collegiate coach Guy Lennox said his charges had to deal with the most intense atmosphere they have played in this year.
The scores were locked 10-10 at halftime with Collegiate's points coming from a try to No8 Joe Edwards with Jack Lupton adding the extras plus a penalty.
Lennox said he wasn't happy with a few "contentious" referee calls which prevented them from getting ahead.
However, that was no excuse for the second half, he said.
