Like any row that's blown over, both sides just want a fresh start.

Ordinarily there would be plenty of expectation for the start of the second round of Wanganui Premier rugby with team two playing three in Waverley.

But instead, focus naturally turns to whether any bad blood from April 6 still exists between Border and Pirates following the ill-tempered 16-15 win to the South Taranaki team on Spriggens Park which saw three of the home team sent off.

The worst fallout was the 10-week suspension for Pirates centre Samu Etuaiti for physical abuse of a linesman after referee Sean Moore pulled the red card, which has three weeks still remaining.

Forwards Simon Hillis and Pinota Leo quietly served out short suspensions for stomping and will be on the field tomorrow.

But following three straight wins in tough games against lower tier Marton, Utiku and Ratana, Pirates coach Phillip 'Red' Morris wants fresh eyes to the task of playing their three fellow semifinal-positioned opposition in the next four weeks.

"We've moved on from that [Border game], it was a long time ago.

"Heat of the moment stuff that shouldn't have happened. A lack of a little bit of fitness was maybe the reason."

Denning Tyrell, who was sinbinned on April 6, will want to steer the ship against Border's Mark Davis, while captain Lasa Ulukuta will be eyeing up a big game in the pack.

Coaches constantly sniff for that sense of fresh air in their team and when watching them all train in horrible conditions on Tuesday, Morris feels it is there for his charges.

"I've always said, 'in June, the big boys come out to play'.

"We've been winning ugly and we know we let ourselves down in the first round.

'I've got no injuries, a large squad, there's an air of excitment starting.

"We're going up there to play attacking and exciting rugby ... and we're going to win."

His opposite, Peter Richardson, was so eager for the same fresh scenario that he engineered it rather than knuckling down for some kind of 'grudge' match, Border were given Tuesday night off training.

"I told them to go away, freshen up, and go on with a new attitude," Richardson said.

Heading for the business end of the season, Richardson took stock of the loss to Ruapehu and having to come from behind in the final quarter against disjointed wooden spooners Marist in the past two weeks.

With a couple of guys away on work commitments while waiting for others to come back from injury, he does not want his squad to weighed down by a mid-season lag.

"Against Marist we probably, for the first time for the year, we didn't kick on and improve where we were.

Moore will be refereeing in Taihape tomorrow, as Gordon Ririnui and George Te Huna handle the duties in Waverley.

In the other games, leaders Ruapehu will want to keep their ball rolling but Marton should prove no pushovers in Ohakune. Taihape will remember how close their two-point Round Over victory over Ratana when they host them, while Marist start their second round hunt for respectability against Utiku at Spriggens Park.
