After 27 years, Alan's a one-shot wonder

Marton golfer Alan Stewart was forced to shell out a few sheckles in the 19th on Sunday after scoring his first hole-in-one.

Playing off a 22 handicap, Stewart smacked the perfect shot to ace the 135m par three 6th hole at the Marton Golf Course.

"I've been playing for 27 years and while I've been close quite a few times before, this was my first," Stewart said yesterday.

The heavy rain that dogged the region on Saturday had moderated by Sunday, but a stiff breeze still blew over the Marton links.

Stewart said he was unsure whether the strong breeze hindered or helped his cause.

"I was pretty happy with myself - but a clubmate, Jenny Ritchie, said I had a way to go to catch her nine holes-in-one," he said.

"It cost me a few bob in the clubhouse afterwards, but it was worth it."
