A bowls season to remember

Bowls Wanganui Inc called close of play on their 2012/13 season on Saturday with an acknowledgement of all their champions and high achievements during the summer at the centre prize giving.

Among the highlights in the men's grades was when Ray Park won the Bowls New Zealand club championship zone 4 singles regional playoffs in New Plymouth. He will now go forward to the national finals at Invercargill's Waverley Bowling Club in June.

Park and Ray Savage came second in the pairs of those same regional playoffs, while fourth place in the fours was achieved by Bernard Anderson, Murray McAuley, Desmond Pirere and Jack Kale.

In the Lion Foundation interclub zone 4 regional playoffs in New Plymouth, Aramoho Bowling Club were first in the men's premier I grade, while Aramoho's other team came fourth in Premier II.

Aramoho went on to come second at the Lion Foundation interclub national finals in Palmerston North. In representative men's bowls, the senior team were second in the Arnott Shield, and the development team were third in the Duckett Trophy.

The men's masters team came second in the annual hexagonal competition in Levin.

Amongst the women, Wanganui East were second in women's premier I and Gonville came fourth in the women's premier II grade.

Ann Kendrick was fourth in the Bowls New Zealand club championship zone 4 singles regional playoffs in New Plymouth, while Dianne Patterson and Wendy Stuthridge came second in the pairs.

Winning the triples at regionals was Claire Ellen, Maria Klitscher and Sadie Head, who like Park go forward to the national finals in Invercargill.

Cynthia Adams, Dot Belliss, Pam Burgess and Patterson were third in the regional fours, while Patterson and Savage came second in the mixed pairs.
