Young actors, singers and musicians gathered in the Whanganui Girl's College Hall to compete in the speech, drama, instrumental and vocal competitions.

The annual event is run by the Wanganui Competitions Society as a winter school holiday event.

Annette Mulligan of Whanganui judged the speech and drama section and Kath Woodley of Hamilton was the judge for instrumental and vocal.

Alyssa Hartley, David Mosen, Hope Fenn and Lucy Hartley received judge's awards for speech and drama.

Alyssa Hartley, David Mosen and junior competitor Kezia Brooker-Wright were awarded scholarships and Dean Peterson received the incentive award.

Judge's awards in the vocal section went to Cate Redshaw, Hannah Boessenkool, Lucy Hartley and Caitlin Comer.

Sophie Toyne, Otis Cleaver, Caitlin Comer and Joseph Burgstaller were awarded scholarships and Lucy Hartley received the incentive award.

Judge's awards in the instrumental section went to Rita Burgstaller, Juliana Stephens, Claris Leung, Bethany Crosse, Abraham Beer, Benedict Nyssen, Kimiora Delamere-Heap and Nizana Ander, and Xavier Gregory received four awards in the category.

Scholarships were awarded to Abraham Beer, Kimiora Delamere-Heap, Julie Nyssen, Abraham Beer, Bethany Crosse, Melody Crosse, Hannah Boessenkool and Tazia Parker.

Thaddeus Gregory, Benedict Nyssen, Rosabella Gregory, Deepika Madhu, Aydan Neilson-Bourke and Rita Burgstaller received incentive awards.

There were also class winners across all categories and co-ordinator Sharyn Wylie said it was a great three days of performances.

"It was our first one without our past-president Eris Walker, who ran the competitions for so many years."

Wylie said the committee is very grateful to Kath Woodley, who stepped in at short notice to replace scheduled adjudicator Ruth Reid who had to pull out due to injury.
