A special ceremony will be held at Wanganui's Alexander Library on Tuesday morning to mark the return of a personal diary of a World War I soldier from the Wellington West Coast Regiment.

The diary was found at Gallipoli by a British soldier and has been in the United Kingdom ever since.

The British soldier's grandson has gifted the diary to the Alexander Library.

Work is still continuing to determine the author of the diary, who is believed to be from the Manawatu district.
