A brawl between a father and son outside a Guyton St bar last weekend resulted in both receiving community work sentences.
Tyson Williams and father David Harry Williams were at Spirit'd bar in Wanganui when they began abusing each other.
Yesterday police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen told Whanganui District CourtDavid Williams was trying to keep his son out of the bar after he had been asked to leave.
The altercation spilled on to the street where the pair began fighting. When police arrived Tyson Williams tried to avoid being handcuffed while David Williams tried to stop police arresting his son and resisted being escorted to the police car. Both pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour and resisting police.
David William's lawyer Stephanie Burlace said it was a scuffle that had escalated. She said he had a plate in his arm which is why he resisted being handcuffed behind his back. "He admits he should have got into the car with the police. He has apologised."
