The speaker for the evening will be Sophie Tauwehe Tamati, a senior lecturer in the faculty of social work and education at the University of Auckland and the creator of a te reo Māori language app used in early childhood centres.
Dr Tamati could not read or write at age 12, but she went on to become a teacher, a school principal and now an academic. She will share her story at Connect at Cooks.
Ms Archibald said the event would be informal, and would encourage people to network.
"The feedback has been that women want to meet other women in business."
Tickets are on sale for $15 through the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Connect at Cooks will be held at 5.30pm on August 29, at Cooks Garden function centre, St Hill St.
