Woman tells police she was looking for the most expensive item to steal

"I was looking for the most expensive thing in the store."

That was the explanation a 26 year-old woman gave police after she stole a knife block set valued at $350 from Briscoes in Whanganui.

Krystal Beach pleaded guilty to shop lifting when she appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen said on July 9 Beach was at Briscoes in Whanganui.

"She entered the store, found the knife block set valued at $349.99. She made no attempt to pay and left the store with stolen item."

Defense lawyer, Richard Leith, said Beach was willing to engage in restorative justice and recommended this as a way forward.

Judge Dugald Matheson remanded Beach on bail for sentencing on October 17.

"In the meantime ask restorative justice be looked into."
