Whanganui Heritage Month begins this week and between August 2, and September 15, a wide range of events are occurring to celebrate Whanganui's heritage. Māori sites of significance include St Paul's Memorial Church at Putiki and numerous marae along the Whanganui River Rd to the settlement of Jerusalem. Whanganui has one of New Zealand's highest concentrations of European heritage buildings and the Sarjeant Gallery and the Durie Hill elevator are both celebrating their 100th year. See more at whanganuiheritagetrust.org.nz or pick up a programme from various locations around town.
