It may be time to dust off the beach gear with a weekend of sunshine and slightly above average temperatures expected for Whanganui.

Conditions from Friday to Sunday are expected to be calm and mostly sunny, with some potential for cloud cover and brief sprinkles of rain on Sunday.

“The next couple of days are actually looking pretty settled over the Whanganui area,” MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said.

Daytime temperatures are expected to stay in the low 20s which is slightly above average for this time of year.

“In November in Whanganui, you would typically expect an average of about 18C,” Makgabutlane said.

“So maybe a little bit warmer than average, but not unusual for this time of year.”

Overnight temperatures will return to closer-to-average following what has been “pretty warm and muggy” conditions during week.

Daytime highs are expected to be 22C on Friday and Saturday, then 21C on Sunday.

Overnight lows are expected to be 12C on Friday, 13C on Saturday and 11C on Sunday.

Northwesterly winds, sometimes shifting to westerly, will likely remain low through most of the weekend.

They may pick up slightly on Sunday, especially around coastal regions.

“We’re not expecting kind of any major rainfall or anything like that. Just a bit of cloud, every now and then,” Makgabutlane said.

“Not a bad weekend at all in Whanganui.”
