Warmer temperatures from the north bring fine, dry weather to Whanganui this week.

Warmer temperatures from the north bring fine, dry weather to Whanganui this week.

Whanganui can expect plenty of dry and bright weather for the second week of autumn, with some weekend southwesterlies.

Metservice meteorologist John Law said Whanganui was in a good spot this week, with some warmer temperatures from the north bringing fine, dry weather.

“Generally, the wettest weather stays away and skirts to far northern parts of the country. So for the next few days, it looks like a pretty decent story,” he said.

Thursday is looking “great” for Whanganui, with a touch of clouds later in the day.

Northwesterly winds are looking to develop on Friday, the warmest day, which could sweep in one or two showers, Law said.

“I think most of those will probably be up about the higher parts of the Whanganui region, up through the hill country.”

Law said this would help boost temperatures with highs of around 26C, and a low of 15C.

“Pretty warm looking story there and staying warm through the night-time as well.”

The rest of the week remains close to the yearly average of 21C by day and 13C overnight.

“As we head through and towards the weekend, generally things are looking dry and settled,” Law said.

“Plenty of dry and bright” weather is expected for the weekend with some southwesterly winds making the coastlines cooler.

Clouds may develop early mornings and late evenings over the weekend.

Southwesterly winds early on Saturday will likely be the most significant winds of the week.
