Whanganui will have a mixed bag of weather this weekend with Sunday the pick for outdoor activities.

After the unsettled conditions today, the weekend will gradually return to full sunshine.

“We are still going to find some showers running through but I think, other than that, it’s not a bad story [for the weekend],” MetService meteorologist John Law said.

Daytime highs are expected to be 20C on Friday, 19C on Saturday and back up to 20C on Sunday.

Overnight lows are forecast of 12C on Friday, 8C on Saturday and 10C on Sunday.

On Friday there may be some scattered showers with lingering northeast winds from today, shifting to northwesterlies in the morning.

“Which is pretty much how it will stay during the daytime on Friday, and then everything starts to ease down once we get through towards the weekend,” Law said.

Saturday’s forecast is for scattered showers but with generally calm winds.

“It’s going to be bits and bobs as those showers run through but I think most of the time there should be some decent spells of clear sky.”

The sun will return fully on Sunday, with clear skies and settled conditions forecast.

“If you had to pick one day of the weekend that has to be generally dry and fine, that would be Sunday,” Law said.

“Sunday looks to be the pick of the weekend.”
