Whanganui weather: Mostly sunny Easter weekend with some showers

Whanganui will have mainly pleasant Easter weekend weather with some showers toward the end.

Friday to Sunday are expected to have clear or partly sunny skies, while Easter Monday may be a day to stay indoors.

MetService meteorologist Gerard Bellam said Whanganui residents can expect “a mainly fine Easter holiday weekend”.

However, people travelling can expect rainy conditions on Monday when many return home.

“It looks like there’s sort of a wet end to the holidays.”

Good Friday will kick off with slightly above-average temperatures for this time of year and clear skies.

Some pockets of cloud are expected into Saturday.

Easter Sunday will bring some cloud accompanied by slightly above-average temperatures.

Southeasterly winds will strengthen on Sunday heading into the wetter weather.

Rain is expected throughout the day on Monday.

Daytime high temperatures are forecast to be 22C on Friday, 23C on Saturday, 22C on Sunday and 23C on Monday.

Overnight lows are forecast to be 12C on Friday to Monday – “it’s a little bit above average”.

Whanganui’s average high for this time of year is 19C with an average low of 11C.

Winds may pick up toward the end of the weekend but are not expected to be significant.

“The wind won’t be a factor.”
