Whanganui's Emma Bedford steps out for Huffer at NZ Fashion Week

Whanganui's Emma Bedford steps out for Huffer at NZ Fashion Week

Fourteen-year-old Whanganui model Emma Bedford is in her element on the catwalk at New Zealand Fashion Week in Auckland.

Emma has been modelling for some of New Zealand's best designers, including Hailwood, Huffer and the Miromoda Showcase supporting Māori fashion designers, in this week's Fashion Week.

"It's so cool and very exciting for Emma," mother Tracy Bedford said.

"She's modelling for different designers with different types of looks. In a few days she has learned so much and taken on board so much. Because she's so young, these years are her developing years.

"She gets a little nervous before the show but they're normal nerves and she gets very excited. When she's out there she absolutely loves it, she's more in her element."

Emma was excited to meet the designers and have her hair done by Richard Kavanagh, global creative director for Rodney Wayne.

"There are models from overseas here and international DJs and music - it's pretty big stuff," Bedford said.

Emma is signed with Whanganui's Embrace Model Management and is under the umbrella of Auckland agency N Model Management.

"For Embrace and Whanganui it's really exciting because it gets Whanganui on the map in the fashion world," Embrace director Carla Jayne Smith said.

"Emma is getting looked at by important people in the fashion industry. Doors can open all over the world for her. A model agent from New York has come to look at her.

"I'm very excited and proud of Emma."

Another Embrace model, Pipar Anahou of Palmerston North, is also modelling at Fashion Week.
