Dr Richard Winkworth will talk about DNA testing at the Whanganui Science Forum on July 31.

A new DNA field test is joining the fight against kauri dieback and myrtle rust, and its developer is coming to Whanganui to share the latest on DNA testing.

Dr Richard Winkworth, senior lecturer in plant genetics at Massey University, will speak to the Whanganui Science Forum about a pocket DNA lab that could help battle new pests and diseases such as myrtle rust, kauri dieback and M. bovis.

The "Test in a Teacup" talk will cover the process of DNA testing, how it helps control pests and diseases, new DNA technologies and the opportunities they offer.

The Whanganui Science Forum is at 7.30pm on Tuesday, July 31, at the Davis Lecture Theatre, Whanganui Regional Museum.

The cost is $4 for members and $5 for non-members.
