Whanganui police used road spikes to stop a fleeing car on Friday night.

A car was stopped with road spikes after a police pursuit in Whanganui.

Police pursued a Honda vehicle in the Gonville area just after 11pm on Friday, Senior Sergeant Shayne Wainhouse said.

"The vehicle was subsequently stopped in Puriri St when road spikes were deployed," Mr Wainhouse said.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and is facing driving charges. He appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Saturday and was remanded to reappear on Tuesday, April 10.
