Dublin St's Black Bull Liquor store was the latest target of an aggravated robbery.
Of at least 18 armed robberies and ram raids of Whanganui businesses since December 2016, Whanganui's police chief says offenders have been arrested and prosecuted in connection with seven.
Area Commander Inspector Nigel Allan said the three most recent robberies, and one in April last year, were now under investigationbut other crimes, where no offenders have yet been caught, were no longer being "actively" investigated.
"Whanganui police continue to work hard to investigate incidents of burglary and robbery as we want our communities to be safe and feel safe," Allan said.
Police were investigating robberies at Black Bull Liquor in Dublin St on July 7, the Gull service station in Victoria Ave on May 24 and Black Bull Liquor in Duncan St on May 23. They were also continuing to work on the April 2017 robbery at the Castlecliff Camp Store in Rangiora St.
"While the remaining incidents are not currently under active investigation, these matters will be revisited should further information become available," Allan said.
"Over the corresponding time period, Whanganui police have made arrests and prosecuted offenders responsible for seven other robbery or aggravated robbery offences where businesses have been targeted.
"We understand the distress that invasive events like burglary and robbery have on victims and the importance of holding offenders to account."
Allan said police had worked closely with business owners and recently held three "Keeping our Businesses Safe" public seminars.
"The public can be assured we will continue to do all we can to ensure our community is safe by working to prevent incidents such as these occurring and through holding offenders to account for their actions," Allan said.
"We strongly urge anyone with information about any robbery, burglary or suspicious activity to come forward and speak to police. This can be done anonymously if necessary through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
"Similarly, any business owner who has concerns is invited to get in touch with local police for some tailored advice on helping keep your business safe."
