Semi finalists have been found for both men and women in the Ryman Healthcare Open Triples bowls competition despite interrupted post section play in Whanganui at the weekend.

After qualifying play on Saturday where teams needed to win three of their four games to qualify, there were only seven qualifiers in the men's competition, but only one round of post section play was completed on Sunday before the weather put paid to any further action on the greens.

In the quarterfinal matches that were played Phil Corney's Aramoho team defeated Clint Park's Wanganui team on an extra end after the scores were tied.

Sean Johnson's Aramoho team defeated Cary Pinker's Wanganui East team 20 to 10 and Ray Savage's Wanganui team also needed an extra end to defeat Peter Belliss' Aramoho trio.

The semi finals will now be played on the finals weekend, March 16-17 at the St Johns Bowling Club. This weekend will be the culmination of all the season's open events across both days and spectators are more than welcome to come along and watch with play scheduled to start at 9am both days.

The men's semi finals will be fought out by Greg Horne, Lindsay Wheeler and Laurie Hocquard (Wanganui) and Phil Corney, Gavin Scrivener and Selwyn Prescott (Aramoho) in one match and on the other side of the draw Sean Johnson, Keith Slight and Kevin Coombe (Aramoho) will take on Ray Savage, Steve Goater and Antony Hanna (Wanganui) for a place in the final.

Scrivener may prove an influential player during the semi finals. The in-form Aramoho left hander is already a finalist in the open singles, pairs and fours, so will be a busy man come finals weekend.

The women's qualifying was also held on Saturday and at the end of the day there were four teams that had the required three wins needed to progress.

Unfortunately, with a scheduled start time of 11am on Sunday the weather intervened before any post section play could be carried out. Once again the semi finals will be played out on finals weekend.

The first semi final will feature Denise Taylor, Dot Belliss and Pam Burgess (Wanganui) taking on Claire Ellen, Maria Klitscher and Bronwyne Gadsby (Wanganui East) while the second semi final will be Joan Raymond, Debbie Wildermoth and Wendy Black (composite team) against Marlene Foster, Judy Johnston and Ann Morgan (Wanganui East).
